Bloomberg Hits Debate Stage 2/19/20
Former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has qualified for his first debate which will take place tonight in Las Vegas, Nevada. The debate is one of many for the other candidates, yet the first for the former New York City Mayor. The billionaire has surged in recent polls, mostly due to his vast numbers of political ads which can be seen just about anywhere. However, Bloomberg does have some ground to makeup after missing the latest primary in New Hampshire as well as the very controversial, and somewhat disastrous Iowa Caucus. Much of the debate over the last couple of weeks seems to be centered around which candidate will have the strongest appeal for African American voters. Bloomberg has clearly made that a focus of some of his advertisements which feature former president Barack Obama. However, just simply putting the former president in campaign ads doesn't seem to be the most effective strategy to win over African American votes, which will be a big factor in determining who wins the democratic nomination and the chance to take on Donald Trump. Many other candidates, specifically former vice president Joe Biden, have said they feel they appeal most towards black voters. The former vice president has attempted to avoid criticism of back to back 4th place finishes in both Iowa and New Hampshire by attempting to convince supporters he will do well in more diverse states, such as Nevada and South Carolina. As for Bloomberg, it will be interesting to see how his opposition handles the billionaire’s first appearance on the debate stage. My guess is it will not be a good reception.

Coronavirus 2/20/20
The Coronavirus continues to run rampant throughout Asia and has spread to other continents as well. There have even been 34 confirmed cases of the virus in the United States. The disease is not slowing down and many medical experts do not expect it to. The disease is now starting to ramp up in South Korea prompting the country to virtually shut down. One of the most startling things about this virus that I have come across is the fact that the virus can live for three days on anything. For example, if someone touches a door handle, the virus could live on the handle for up to three days which is incredibly rare. This makes the virus very scary and scientists are predicting that the virus could continue to be a problem for at least a year.

Artificial Intelligence and Automation 2/20/19
Artificial intelligence is a trending topic and is starting to get a lot of attention. With the continued advancement of technology artificial intelligence and automation has slowly started to take over a lot of things within the United States and other countries around the world, particularly China. The two countries are dominating the rest of the world in this category, yet the Chinese are thought to be ahead of the United States. Automation has become a big topic in the United States as well and has even become a popular political topic. Presidential candidate, Andrew Yang, made automation a big part of his campaign. He continuously stated how automation has started to take over many job markets. Particularly when it comes to manufacturing jobs, automation has started to make manual labor needless. Machines are now becoming sophisticated enough to perform the jobs that were previously done by humans while also doing them more efficiently and without requiring a paycheck. This is something that could have a major effect on the United States economy in the upcoming years because many of these people do not have college degrees and as a result, will find it hard to acquire a new job. This is definitely something worth watching as technology continues to advance and take over.

Colin O’Brady 2/21/20
American adventurer Colin O’Brady has done some unthinkable things in his life. O’Brady is the first person to ever walk across the entire land mass of Antarctica by himself without resupplying any of his resources. The trip took him 54 days and he walked a total of 932 miles. He had a sled with him that weighed 375 pounds with everything he needed along with a GPS. many news outlets including the New York Times tracked him on his journey. This story is just unbelievably crazy. Walking 932 miles by yourself seems unthinkable for the vast majority of people, but the fact that he did it across Antarctica is just such a brutal environment. Obviously the physical shape a person would have to be in to do this is immense, but what struck me even more was the mental state of someone being able to do this. Being able to walk across the entire land mass with nothing but white in front of you and nobody accompanying you is just incredible. O’Brady also rowed across much of the Arctic ocean while accompanied by 5 other men. This trip took them two and half weeks and they rowed over 700 miles. These two stories just show what the human body is able to do when someone sets their mind to accomplish an seemingly impossible task.

Wilder vs Fury II 2/22/20
The biggest Heavyweight boxing fight of the century took place Saturday night in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This was the first time that two undefeated fighters had ever had a rematch. Tyson Fury from Manchester, England came into the fight with a record of 29-0-1with 20 knockouts and Deontay Wilder from Tuscaloosa, Alabama came in with a record of 42-0-1 with 41 knockouts. This was the second time the two faced each other. The first fight between the two was a back and forth affair that ended in a draw. This was the reason that this fight was one of the most anticipated in boxing history. The fight broke the gate record tallying over 16 million dollars. Wilder came into the fight as a slight favorite and personally I liked Wilder in the fight. However, it was a much different story as Fury came out in well, a Fury! He dominated the fight from start to finish knocking down Wilder in the third round before his corner threw in the towel in the 7th round. Fury then grabbed the microphone and proceeded to sing “American Pie” by Don Mclean. One of the biggest nights in boxing history went in favor of the Englishman. Boxing fans now await a possible third matchup between the two.

Corona Virus and the Media 3/31/20
The Corona Virus is not going away anytime soon. Many experts have said that even when we are able to get a grip on the virus, it will eventually make it's return until we ultimately find a way to create a vaccination. I think that the biggest thing we can do is just try and stay inside to keep everyone safe. It is still starting the number of people who are still out driving around and going into public spaces. I think a lot of people still don't realize how big of a deal it actually is. A lot of that is because of the media and sheer politics. Most news sites are doing a great job of trying to keep people informed about what is going on and the dangers that surround this virus, but there's still a ton of people who either don't think it is a big deal, or they believe it is a hoax meant to hurt the President. Things like that are crazy and are doing a lot of damage. The President at the beginning was downplaying the virus and saying that it wasn't going to be extreme across the U.S. However, we do have to give the President some credit for shutting down travel to and from China before it spread to the United States. This was an unpopular opinion that ended up being a very much needed measure to protect Americans. The President has been very interesting to watch in these daily White House press conferences. It is always interesting to see what he has to say compared to the experts and doctors that are working with the White House to figure out solutions. A lot of times the President has said things contrary to what the experts are saying. The President a lot of times trying to be a lot more positive and give a somewhat unrealistic outlook in an attempt to calm down Americans. It is a really interesting spot that thePresident is in with the media. On one hand, he has to try and be as accurate as possible when talking about the virus and how serious it is getting and how serious it could become, yet he is also running for re-election in November and has to find a way to make it look worse than it is to look good for voters. For example the President made multiple statements about how he wanted to re-open the country by Easter which is on April the 12th. The vast majority of experts don't expect the virus to be anywhere close to contained by that date. The media has responded to this is two different ways. One group says that the President is making unrealistic expectations and lying to the American people, and the other says he is just trying to give us some hope that maybe we can contain it sooner than expected. Either way, it will be interesting to see how the media responds to the President's remarks about this as we go forward in unprecedented times.
